Quelle surprise! So the Hampstead crime rate is lower than that of Lambeth! Who would have thought? Proof if any that London is such a wonderfully diverse city. Proof also that the political and media elite have, as ever, their fingers on the pulse.
But I guess when you’re a rock solid member of the political and media elite as Balls is, your journeys into dark and deepest boroughs such as Streatham and Tower Hamlets will be few and far between.
What I wonder do real Londoners think about the fate of their city – those who don’t happen to reside in the sycophantic surroundings of Hampstead or Westminster, those who most certainly don't write smug columns for the lefty media?
We know all what the dinner-party set think. It’s splashed all over the pages of the Guardian and aired nightly on the BBC. But what about real people?
As I write, Balls’ chaotic wife Yvette Copper is ensuring that the UK will receive hundreds and thousands more migrants thanks to EU family re-unification rules. These rules state that once migrants have reached the welfare states of Northern Europe, their extended families have the right to join them.
In Cooper’s world it’s a question of pragmatism: Don’t forget who got you into the UK, at least not when it’s election time.
In his defence, Balls is not the only member of the media and political elite who live in their very own multi-cultural fairyland.
The BBC’s Evan Davies expressed a similar sentiment to a Republican politician he was interviewing on Newsnight last week. “Trump’s view of London is one I don’t recognise,” purred Davies, who spends his days between the smug corridors of Broadcasting House and the trendier areas of North London.
Predictably, the Liberal-lefties have been queuing up to denounce Donald Trump’s recent remarks about London – chiefly, it has to be said, from the interiors of their plush multi-million pound town houses.
According to them Trump is crazy. Only a deluded fascist could not see that Britain’s capital city is a multi-culturalist utopia, and one that must be very proud to have ‘Mohammed’ as the name of choice amongst new-born males.
It must also be very proud to be the knife-crime capital of Europe. Proud too to be Europe’s chief breeding ground for jihadists. What city would not be proud of such achievements? Davies and Balls and the rest of their elitist friends must get a lump in their throats by just the mere thought of all that lovely diversity.
What a sophisticated bunch are the British metropolitan elite, with their Chilean wines and forays into halal food. Now that’s what I call culture. I don’t suppose Davies or Balls would fancy spending a day in a halal slaughter house, just in the interests of diversity you understand. Thought not.
Or how about a night in one of south London’s many ghettos? Balls and Davies must be living on another planet to the rest of us. Whatever, this pair of dunces have hardly helped dispel the notion that the political and media elite are not only out of touch with reality, but contemptuous of it also.
Are the likes of Davies and Balls ignorant or just wilfully blind? A bit of both actually. While the multi-culticultural lies must be maintained at any cost, it is always a heck of a lot easier to do so from the plush drawing rooms of Hampstead village. Okay yah.
