Just the mention of the mention of that name is enough to send the old blood pressure perilously high.
Voters of the UK will be all too aware of how, with his ‘soft Brexit,’ this little weasel is attempting to undermine the 23rd June EU vote. Farron is a Liberal Democrat, and as such a staunch believer in the principles of democracy – provided the vote goes his way of course. On June 23rd it didn’t.
Farron didn’t like that one little bit.
As a Liberal and pro-EU fanatic it goes without saying that Farron is also committed to free movement of people and mass migration into the UK. It’s his and his fellow travellers way of signalling their sophistication, their membership of the meta-democracy club which includes the whole pantheon of Liberal media and Hollywood luvvies.
Fine. So yours truly decided to put Farron to the test.
With its rolling hills, expanse of lakes and chocolate box villages, South Lakeland – Farron’s parliamentary constituency - is one of the UK’s most beautiful locations. It’s also one of the UK’s least populated areas, a place of vast open spaces, fresh air and countryside as far as the eye can see.
It also happens to be one of the UK’s least ethnically diverse areas.
Save for the summer gaggle of Japanese tourists haunting the very hills and dales that Wordsworth once trod, you won’t find too many non-white faces in this unspoilt landscape. You won’t find too many mosques in these parts either. Shocking. Whisper it, but could the English Lakes be a hub for white supremacism…?
While certain areas of the UK such as East Anglia, parts of Cambridgeshire and many UK inner city areas struggle to cope with an ever increasing number of migrants, good old South Lakeland continues to be a spacious, green, largely migrant-free zone.
Why not send some of these migrants Farron’s way thought I? Why not send them to the overwhelmingly white Lake District thereby injecting a much needed dose of colour into this pallid, pasty landscape? That way the pain – I mean cultural enrichment – could be shared equally across the UK.
As zealous champions of diversity Farron and his Liberal Democrat supporters would surely support an influx of migrants into the lovely, white Lakes, right?
Migrants-4-Lakeland was the eye-catching strap-line I chose for my campaign, one that called for the Lakes to take its share of the UK’s migrants.
Emboldened with my own zeal I contacted Farron on Twitter:
“Hey Tim, can we count of your support for our Migrants-4-Lakeland campaign?”
I tweeted him again. No reply. I contacted his Liberal Democrat constituency office, regaling them with my plan to turn the Lake District into a haven for ‘desperate’ people fleeing war, poverty and famine.
It seems that Farron and his fellow Liberals are not too interested in the plight of ‘desperate’ migrants who wish for ‘a better life’ in the safety and security of the English Lake District. Strange. One would have thought that Mr Farron would have been only too anxious to lend his support to such a good cause. Apparently not.
Lincolnshire, East Anglia, Middlesbrough, inner city London, send them anywhere eh Tim, anywhere but the Lakes.
While Farron is quite happy to see the national identity of the rest of the UK eroded under mass migration, it seems he’s not quite as enthusiastic for the same fate to befall his overwhelmingly liberal Lakeland constituency.
Ladies and gentleman I give you Tim Farron…. self-styled progressive, EU fanatic, sophisticate, democrat, fighter against xenophobia, fighter for a fairer society, social justice warrior extraordinaire.
Tim Farron, a man who talks the talk, a man zealously driven by a desire to help ‘desperate’ people – refugees, migrants, children – to take them in, to give them shelter, warmth and succour, only not in your own backyard, eh Tim?
